Where?A Classic Sailing Adventure operates out of Annapolis, Maryland, which is centrally located on the Chesapeake Bay. Directions While many of our customers enjoy simply sailing on the beautiful waters of the Bay, others prefer to travel to and from some of the picturesque destinations on the Bay. St. Michael's, Oxford, Solomon's Island, and Rockhall are just some of the destinations that are within a day's sail of Annapolis. And, of course, longer cruises can reach destinations along the length of the Bay, including Smith and Tangier Islands. Reservations? Questions? Go here! When? The Chesapeake Bay is blessed with temperate weather conditions, resulting in a long sailing season. While still mostly chilly in March, it is not uncommon for temperatures to reach into the 60s. By May, the temperature is firmly fixed in the 70s, with things really heating up for July and August. The temperature starts dropping again in October, with gorgeous views of the changing leaves from the water during the occasional "Indian Summer." By the first weeks in December, the temperature tends to be down into the 50s and all but the hardiest sailors retreat to the fireside until March rolls around once more. Wear?As with any outdoor experience, the best practical advice is: expect the unexpected! And, don't forget the sunscreen. Even on cloudy days, long hours of exposure can result in painful burns. Your eyes need protection too - don't forget the shades with UV protection.
Shoes should be comfortable and durable, with good traction, and capable of withstanding a good soaking. Please - leave dark soled shoes at home. Skid marks can be a bear to get up off a white deck! |
